Kelly Benton

Kelly Benton, State Coordinator
Ks State Animal Response Team

Kelly graduated from WSU with a BA in Business Management and began a career in the technical field working for Thorn Americas for 12 years.  During that time she developed, maintained and executed the annual business recovery plan.  Deciding to leave the technical career and move into non-profit, she held the Membership Services Director position for the Sedgwick County Zoo for 8 years.

Kelly has been an animal advocate and volunteer in the community for over 25 years with the Kansas Humane Society and joined the animal response team volunteer ranks in April 2009 after attending a Table Top exercise hosted by Skaer Veterinary Clinic, KS SART and Code 3 Associates.  In 2011, Kelly stepped into the role of Unit Coordinator for KS SART as a contractor and realized this was an opportunity to combine her experience in recovery planning with her passion for animals and join this incredible organization to make a difference in the lives of people and their pets during a disaster.  In 2019 when the regional teams and the KS SART board came together as one state team, the contract title was renamed State Coordinator.
