Laurie Harrison, Riley Co Emergency Management
Laurie Harrison is the Emergency Management Coordinator for Riley County. She has held that position since 1999. She received her KCEM in 2002 and continues to meet those requirements for re-certification. Laurie is a graduate of Manhattan Area Technical College. She has attended KSU and Barton County Community College.
Laurie has been active in KEMA holding the offices of NE regional VP (2003/2004/2016/2017), President-elect(2007/2018), President (2008), and Past President (2009). She has served on by-laws/policies/procedure committee, conference committee, and has been a KCEM commissioner. During her term as KEMA President, Laurie was instrumental in starting the discussion for the scholarship program. In 2014/2015 she was part of a group that reviewed the KEMA awards and updated the process. In 2010, she received the Owen U Turrentine Emergency Management Professional of the Year award.
Prior to her career in Emergency Management, Laurie worked as a Communications Specialist with KSUPD for 14 years and was a member of KS APCO. She was an active member of EMSAK serving as President and receiving the Outstanding Member of the Year in 2003. She now serves as the KEMA representative on the NE Regional Homeland Security Council. She is also an IMT member.
Laurie works with several volunteer programs in Riley County including the Weather Amateur Radio Network (WARN), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).
When this hard working gal is not on the clock, she enjoys riding her Harley-Davidson. She and her husband, David, have enjoyed numerous road trip vacations on their motorcycles.
