100_2022Annual Volunteer Recognition Awards

Thank you to all of you who have given your time, energy and passion to your animal response team volunteer role.  You are the heart and soul of animal response in Kansas! The Kansas State Animal Response Team (KS SART) acknowledges the importance of recognizing volunteers at all levels of service, training and response.  These awards offer a gesture of appreciation, a symbol of encouragement and a declaration of support to animal response team volunteers.   As a result, this volunteer recognition program was implemented in October, 2015 at the Kansas Animal Preparedness Conference (KAPC).

The awards process:

  • Recognition term is September 1 through August 31
  • Award review panel is comprised of three KS SART BoD members (president, vice-president, additional member)
  • Source for awardee statistics is the state volunteer database (Volgistics)
  • Volunteer training/service hours records must be updated in the KS SART volunteer database before September 1
  • For the Christen Skaer Leadership Award, nominations must be submitted before September 15
  • Volunteers are recognized annually at the Kansas Animal Preparedness Conference/Exercise

Award Descriptions:

  • Volunteer Service Award – to recognize the volunteer with the most volunteer services hours recorded for the recognition term
  • Volunteer Training Award – to recognize the volunteer with  the most volunteer training hours recorded for the recognition term
  • Annual Ks Animal Preparedness Conference/Exercise attendance award – to recognize volunteers who take time to attend the annual conference/exercise offered by KS SART
  • Training Above and Beyond – to recognize volunteers who take time to attend additional KS SART sponsored training opportunities during the recognition term
  • Deployment Service Award – to recognize volunteers responding to disasters as a part of the animal response team network of Kansas, during the recognition term (deployed through KDEM)

The Christen Skaer Leadership Award

 photo (51)Awarded annually in recognition of the animal response team volunteer who has shown outstanding achievement, commitment, leadership and education in preparing people and their pets for a disaster, tireless dedication to strengthening animal response teams in Kansas, and/or their dedication responding after a disaster.”
