Peggy Oertwig, KC Pet Project

Peggy Oertwig is a lifelong animal lover, and has cared for many types of animals, including training, housing, dietary and minor medical needs, and handling animals in stressful situations.  She is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, and Certified Humane Animal Investigator.  Since 2012 she has been part of the innovative lifesaving team at The Kansas City Pet Project in Kansas City, Missouri, and is currently their Investigative & Compliance Specialist.

She became interested in disaster response in 2006, and has been a member of the Independence, Missouri Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) since that time.  She has also served as Co-Chair of the Northland Disaster Animal Response Team (serving Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri), since 2011 and as an Advisory Board Member of KS KCMetro Animal Response Team (serving Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties in Kansas) since 2015.  She has deployed as a member of the ASPCA’s Field Investigations and Response (FIR) Team several times.  She became a certified instructor for Shelter from the Storm (A Shelter Training Course from the Florida State Animal Response Coalition) in 2017.

Peggy is the owner/operator of Peg’s Pet Care, LLC, and provides pet behavior consultations and modification plans as well as private obedience training.  In addition she provides pet sitting services in clients’ homes for all types of pets, including birds, reptiles and exotics.

She is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Pet Dog Trainers, Heartland Positive Dog Training Alliance, Pet Sitters Associates, LLC, and the National Animal Care & Control Association.

Prior to entering the field of animal welfare Peggy worked as a Paralegal for more than 20 years.  She studied business at Columbia College, and then obtained her Paralegal Certificate from William Jewel College.   In her spare time she enjoys reading and traveling.  Her guilty pleasure is listening to Christmas music starting in October of each year, when Pentatonix releases a new Christmas album.
