Melissa Houston, Chamber Director

Melissa Houston is currently the Chamber Director in her hometown for the Mulvane Chamber of Commerce
sharing her years of experience in marketing, public relations, fundraising and entrepreneurship. However, her
passion has always been in Animal Welfare beginning 19 years ago working as shelter staff for the Kansas
Humane Society (KHS). After leaving for college, she continued to volunteer, foster and a member of the
Woofstock Committee from 2004-2016.Coming full-circle, she went back to work for KHS again in 2010
eventually becoming the Director of Marketing and Communications. In this role, she was the pet expert
answering questions from pet owners on the weekly Pet Project news segment featured on KSN Channel 3,
Wichita, KS. This animal knowledge along with experience managing the KHS retail store brought the
opportunity to become one of the Panel of Experts for Insect Shield® for Pets to help educate pet retailers and
pet owners about insect-borne disease risks and prevention methods. Today, Melissa is a Board Member for the
Sedgwick County Animal Response Team (SCART) becoming Board Secretary in 2017. She thoroughly enjoys
the organization including: SCART events such as Project Care, working with teams through problem solving
activities especially digital opportunities, using experience in marketing and media relations, and volunteering
when possible to help the organization in any way. In all, Melissa continues as she began 19 years ago, with the
mission to raise awareness about compassion and care for all animals.
